I am (on an IRIX 4.0.4 box, just FYI).  I am using the BIND 4.8 resolver
libraries, but I am running a version 4.9.2 named (beta test).  No problems.

Perhaps you did not use the bind 4.9 header files when you linked against
the 4.9 resolver library?  They re-arranged some of the structures used in
4.9 (I know not why).
